Meet the Team

Abdullahi Mahmud
Abdullahi Sani Mahmud is a Measurement and Monitoring Associate at TaRL Africa in Nigeria. In this role, he works with Bauchi State Government to design effective and robust monitoring and measurement systems and integrate them into existing structures. He provides technical support towards strengthening the capacity of government officials at all levels to understand and respond to data for better decision-making.

Afees Odewale
Afees Odewale is a Measurement and Monitoring Associate at TaRL Africa, based in Nigeria. He supports the Kebbi state government to design a feasible and scalable monitoring strategy and development of TaRL programme. He as well facilitates capacity building of EMIS and Quality Assurance officials to understand and respond to data, to improve the learning outcomes of primary school children in the state.

Aisha Adamu
Aisha Umar Adamu is the Kaduna state Team Lead in Nigeria. She provides technical and managerial direction for the successful implementation of TaRL activities in Kaduna state. Her role also entails overseeing the implementation of the TaRL activities by working closely with stakeholders including the Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), State Ministry of Education and other members of the TaRL Africa team. Aisha is a competent education manager and administrator.

Akeem Odewale
Akeem Odewale is a Measurement and Monitoring Associate at TaRL Africa in Nigeria. In this role, he works with Kano State Government to design effective and robust monitoring and measurement systems and integrate them into existing structures. He provides technical support towards strengthening the capacity of government officials at all levels to understand and respond to data for better decision-making.

Alain Serge Kouame
Alain Serge Kouame is a Measurement, Learning, and Evaluation Associate at TaRL Africa in Côte d’Ivoire. In this role, he works with the Ministry of Education and Literacy (MENA) officials in Cote d’Ivoire to build their capacities in understanding and using data to improve children’s learning outcomes for the country’s Primary schools.

Alex Banda
Alex Banda is the State Team Lead for Bauchi state in Nigeria. He works with policymakers and partners across contexts in the country to build their understanding of Teaching at the Right Level while providing technical and management direction for the successful implementation of the TaRL approach in Bauchi state. Alex also supports the training and Mentoring of Master Trainers, Mentors, and Teachers on the TaRL methodology as well as supporting the development of instructional content for literacy and numeracy.

Alfred Kioko
Alfred Kioko is a training and mentoring fellow at TaRL-Africa based in Kenya. He supports in implementation of TaRL methodology by giving instructional support to learners, teachers, volunteers, and communities in Kenya.

Amina Yusuf
Amina Yusuf is TaRL Africa’s Finance and Admin Assistant based in Nigeria. She is a chartered accountant and also an expert in finance. She supports the day to day operational, financial and administrative operations in Nigeria. She carries out wide range Financial and accounting functions which include ensuring compliance with financial internal control.

Amos Dembele
Amos Dembele is TaRL Africa’s Country Director for Côte d’Ivoire. He is tasked to build and strengthen the team that works with the Ministry on the PEC program and support the growth and development of PEC in Côte d’Ivoire. He manages the country teams and operations; to work with the government and use lessons learned in the field to adjust implementation of the programme while carefully considering the evidence behind the approach. He also collaborates closely with the Ivorian Ministry of Education and its partners and maintain effective working relationships with all programme stakeholders.

Anderson Dehi
Anderson Dehi is a monitoring and evaluation (M&E) specialist. He works in collaboration with TaRL Africa’s central team and the Ministry of National Education, Technical Education and Vocational Training of Côte d’Ivoire to create a M&E strategy to be integrated into existing government systems and strengthen the government’s capacity in M&E as well as the use of data.

Andy de Barros
Andy de Barros is a Postdoctoral Associate at J-PAL, where he works with TaRL Africa and J-PAL South Asia. His research specialises in programme evaluation and evidence-based education policy. With TaRL Africa, he develops and implements new studies on the TaRL approach, focusing on those which can inform the programme’s ability to cost-effectively reach the most children.

Anjali Shandilya
Anjali Shandilya is a Measurement and Monitoring Associate with the International Collaborations Team at Pratham. She is part of the TaRL Africa central team and supports programmes in Cote d’Ivoire. She works with the country team to develop monitoring and evaluation strategies and strengthen the government’s systems and capacity. She also works with partners across several countries on measurement and review design. She also supports new teaching and learning innovations on Learning Labs.

Apoorva Baheti
Apoorva Baheti is a Measurement and Monitoring Associate with the International Collaborations team at Pratham. She is part of the central team at TaRL Africa and supports programmes in Nigeria and Zambia. She provides technical support to the country teams and partners on measurement design, strategy, and strengthening data systems

Ashleigh Morrell
Ashleigh is the Programs and Partnerships Director. She oversees program design, delivery, and improvement across the region. This includes working closely with TaRL Africa central and country teams as well as partners to build and scale sustainable high-impact programs, as well as nurture the TaRL movement on the continent. She is also responsible for building donor relationships and grant management.

Awa Ndoye
Awa Ndoye is a French associate. She works closely with the local government on the adaptation of the TaRL methodology for French educational content in Côte d’Ivoire. She helps on all aspects of the French pedagogical content, from guides to training and capacity buildings. She also contributes to support teachers for an effective implementation of TaRL in the classroom in order to maximize its effectiveness on the field.

Bernard Omondi
Omondi is a Measurement and Monitoring Associate at TaRL Africa, based in Kenya. He has 6 years of experience in monitoring and measurement with expertise in data management for programmatic and research purposes. He is Proficient in various M&E functions such as M&E tools and system development, routine and periodic data, dissemination and capacity building. He has prior experience in program management.

Candy Nyangoya
Candy is the HR & Administrative Associate for TaRL Africa. She supports key HR functions of recruitment, contracting, performance management, compensation and benefits, health and safety, employee relations and compliance for the central office and across the country offices.

Catherine Botros
Catherine Botros is a Programme Coordinator on TaRL Africa’s central team. She supports teams and partners across different countries to strengthen implementation and strategic planning for improvement of programme growth. Catherine also supports communication, training workshops, learning and innovation lesson sharing as well as coordination of regional outreach, fundraising, and donor management.

Carla Campos
Carla Campos is TaRL Africa’s Program Coordinator for Côte d’Ivoire. She supports the Ministry of education and local authorities on strengthening implementation in the country and scaling up the program to all regions. She coordinates activities for the different strands of the program in Côte d’Ivoire, including the Learning Labs. Carla also supports fundraising, managing donors and partnerships and the communication strategy.

Celeste Dushime
Celeste Dushime is a Programme Associate on TaRL Africa’s central team. She supports partners to strengthen implementation and strategic planning for improvement of programme growth. Celeste also supports learning labs as well as coordination and communication among donors, partners and the team at large.

Chavi Jain
Chavi Jain is the Deputy Director of Measurement, Learning & Evaluation.
She leads the design and execution of programmatic measurement, monitoring and review processes, in support of continuous data-based decision making during TaRL implementation. She also supports the overall strategy and implementation of TaRL Africa’s research and learning initiatives across Africa.

Conrad Lutta
Conrad Lutta is IT Associate for TaRL Africa based in Kenya and runs IT Support and Operations within Africa. With focus on IT Service Management, Operation Excellence and Innovation to the Teaching at the Right Level methodology, he is responsible for analyzing, monitoring and maintaining the organization’s website, IT Systems and Infrastructure, security as well as providing advice and training on technology best practices.

Daniele Ressler
Daniele Ressler is TaRL Africa’s Director of Measurement, Learning and Evaluation. She is responsible for strategy and implementation of TaRL Africa’s research and learning initiatives, to support evidence-based scaling of the TaRL methodology across the region. Daniele also oversees programmatic measurement, monitoring and review processes, in support of high-quality data use and innovation during TaRL implementation

Danlami Gwammaja
Danlami Bala Gwammaja is with TaRL as a Literacy and Content Associate – Kano, Nigeria. In this role, he supports the design and continual improvement of the numeracy, English and Hausa reading components of TaRL interventions in Nigeria. Initially, he supports content development and capacity building exercises for TaRL activities in Kano State, and works as a part of a team who works with the focus state government to improve learning outcomes in the state

Dennis Kyalo
Dennis Kyalo is TaRL Africa’s Senior Research and Learning Coordinator. He manages and leads scoping, designing, testing, and disseminating innovative research and learning concepts; leads randomized controlled trials (RCTs) operations; and supports design and roll-out of research studies. He also mentors a team of TaRL Research Associates and Assistants and liaises with TaRL’s partners in the region and beyond.

Devyani Pershad
Devyani Pershad is the Head of Pratham’s International Collaborations unit. She leads technical strategy and approach, and manages partner relationships across several TaRL Africa countries. She is also responsible for building donor relationships and grant management. She further provides strategic oversight for TaRL in Côte d’Ivoire.

Dianarose Odhiambo
Dianarose Odhiambo is the Communications Associate for TaRL Africa. She collaborates with the broader TaRL Africa team on communications needs, supporting in the implementation of the communications strategy for TaRL Africa, media engagement, digital content generation, as well as all internal and external communications activities for TaRL Africa.

Esther Wamoto
Esther Wamoto is the Chief Talent Officer for TaRL Africa. She leads the HR and recruitment function across Africa by collaborating with senior managers to provide expert counsel and ensuring the right talent is hired at TaRL Africa.

Emmanuel Omurunga
Emmanuel Omurunga is a Content and Training Associate at TaRL Africa’s central team. In this role, he supports the understanding and implementation of the TaRL approach and learning techniques by providing instructional support to Master Trainers, classroom instructors and mentors. He also works with partners and the TaRL content team to design, organise and support training workshops

Florence Dzame
Florence Dzame is the Africa Communications Manager for TaRL Africa. She leads strategies that support global awareness about the initiative in Africa, fundraising, and country-specific communications, media, and advocacy support. .

Franklin Onyia
Franklin Onyia is a Senior Measurement and Monitoring Associate at TaRL Africa, based in Nigeria. He oversees the design and implementation of M&M strategies across, with a range of partners and state teams in Nigeria. He Supports tracking/review of implementation and outcomes of TaRL Nigeria programmes and delivery against the various project monitoring frameworks. He as well supports technical capacity building of government and partners.

Fred Abungu
Fred Abungu is a Content Developer and Trainer at TaRL Africa’s central team, based in Kenya. His key focus is on reading and arithmetic across different contexts. He supports country and partner teams in testing and developing contextually appropriate materials and methodology, as well as training country and partner teams on the TaRL approach.

Gabriel Yakubu
Gabriel Yakubu is a Mathematics Content and Training Associate with TaRL Africa in Nigeria. He contributes to the development of content for Math lessons, tracks facilitators’ classroom experiences and innovation and use of TaRL Maths methodology.

Hafsatu Hamza
Hafsatu Hamza is the Senior Programme Coordinator on the Nigeria team. She works closely with multiple state governments and partners to provide technical design and development leadership on TaRL. She also coordinates the programmes, supports partnership management and oversees the TaRL learning and knowledge management in Nigeria.

Harrington Patrick
Harrington Patrick is a Training and Mentoring Fellow for TaRL Africa in Kenya. He works with TaRL Africa team to provide instructional support to facilitators, learners, volunteers and communities in Kenya

Indresh Talsaniya
Indresh Talsaniya is a Content Developer and Trainer with Pratham’s International Collaborations team. He is the key support for literacy capacity-building of the government master trainers and teachers of Catch Up in Zambia, and also reviews programme implementation. Indresh supports literacy training of government staff and partner organisations across other countries in Africa.

Inyang Udo-Umoren
Inyang Udo-Umoren is the TaRL Country Manager – Nigeria. As the country manager, she is responsible for providing technical support to TaRL programmes within Nigeria and across other African TaRL-implementing countries. She also strengthens monitoring systems while scoping for new TaRL opportunities.

Irene Njeri
Irene Njeri is a Training and Mentoring Fellow at TaRL Africa in Kenya. She works with the TaRL Africa team to provide instructional support to learners, volunteers, parents, and communities throughout TaRL implementation. She also supports quality control and mentoring with a goal to improve the learning outcomes of primary school children in Kenya.

Jacqueline Mathenge
Jacqueline Mathenge is the TaRL Africa Research Manager. She supports the design and management of research and learning of TaRL programmes across Africa. She also supports the dissemination of research findings within cross-country teams, funders and relevant stakeholders.

Janeffer Mumo
Janeffer Mumo is a training and Mentoring Fellow. She is pivotal for numeracy and literacy instruction, mentoring and content development at TaRL Africa. Janeffer builds the capacities of instructors ,government staff and partner organisations to adapt and implement TaRL numeracy and literacy programmes across several counties in Kenya, while reviewing programme implementation.

Jean-Philippe
Jean-Philippe Ahoua is Program coordinator within the Côte d’Ivoire team of TaRL Africa. He works in collaboration with the central team of TaRL Africa and the Ministry of National Education, Technical Education and Vocational Training of Côte d’Ivoire in the implementation of the Targeted Education Program (PEC) in the north of the country.

Joakim Sumba
Joakim E. Sumba is a Finance Associate at TaRL Africa and is based in Kenya. He is responsible for supporting TaRL Africa offices in the provision of a high-quality operational efficiency including accounts payable and receivables, budgets and forecasts, financial planning across core and sponsored fund, monitor cash position, coordinating internal and external audits, analysis of finances, management of procurement and logistics services, monthly general ledger review, monitor and review spending and reporting for management and external donors and general accounting duties.

Joan Ngugi
Joan Ngugi is a Programme Associate at TaRL Africa and is based in Kenya. With extensive experience in Program Management, She is responsible for supporting central and partner team in coordination, planning and execution of TaRL programming. Joan also supports coordination across function areas to ensure holistic support to country and partner teams with focus on experimentation and innovation activities at TaRL to ensure continuous programme growth.

Justin Mutie
CPA Justin Mutie is TaRL Africa’s Operation’s Director based in Kenya. He is a financial/operations management expert and a compliance champion with good peoples skills and high integrity. As the Operations Director, he works closely with the managing director, TaRL Africa to provide a range of strategic functions including primary responsibility for all financial matters and management of operations to ensure effective delivery of services. His responsibilities also include establishment and enforcement of financial and operational policies to guide projects operations for the organization whilst working closely with MIT and other grant administrators on grants management.

Kodjo Aflagah
Kodjo Aflagah is a Postdoctoral Associate at J-PAL-Africa, where he works with TaRL Africa and DigiFI. With TaRL Africa, he works to develop innovations in mentoring, monitoring, and teaching.

Lawrence Kinuthia
Lawrence Kinuthia is a Programme Associate at TaRL Africa and is based in Kenya. He supports the TaRL community across Africa to nurture a movement of actors across the continent who are committed to addressing the learning crisis using the TaRL approach through supporting communication, training workshops, as well as learning and innovation lesson sharing events.

Lorian Egesa
Lorian Egesa is TaRL Africa’s Grants Manager. He is responsible for managing financial and reporting aspects of grants received by TaRL Africa across multiple countries, ensuring donor standards are met while safeguarding the organization’s interests. He oversees the whole financial life cycle of grants from creation of request for proposals for grant-making by TaRL Africa, vetting selected sub-awardees and drafting agreements as well as monitoring and closeout.

Louiza Kaluna
Louiza Kaluna is a Programme Coordinator on TaRL Africa’s central team. She supports teams and partners across different countries to strengthen implementation and strategic planning for improvement of programme growth. Louiza also supports communication, training workshops, learning and innovation lesson sharing as well as coordination of regional outreach, fundraising, and donor management.

Madeleine Adaye
Madeleine Adaye is a Program Associate at TaRL AFRICA Côte d’Ivoire. She acts as a strategic education advisor and strengthens government commitments through advocacy and engagement at all levels of government. She also leads the achievement of the overarching goal of mainstreaming the ECP programme into the education system of Côte d’Ivoire and ensures that it is taken to national scale and sustained.

Mahuba Hazemba
Mahuba Wesley Hazemba is the Government Liason Officer for Catch Up TaRL – Africa,, Zambia. He is responsible for supporting the integration of Catch Up in the Zambian Education System. He supports the development and management, integration and sustainability strategies and facilitate communication and engagement with government stake holders at all levels. His overall goal is therefore to strengthen ownership and implementation of Catch Up in the Zambian Education System.

Maureen Misuu
Maureen Misuu is TaRL Africa’s Senior Finance Associate based in Kenya. She is a finance/grants management specialist and a compliance expert with strong analytical and Interpersonal skills. As the Senior Finance Associate, she works closely with the Operations director, TaRL Africa to provide a range of Financial and accounting functions including primary responsibility for Consolidating finances and producing monthly, quarterly, and annual financial management information and reports across all TaRL Africa offices. Her responsibilities also include assembling annual budgets and forecast in accordance with the annual planning cycle for country and central offices whilst working closely with Country Managers and Operations Director.

Meera Tendolkar
Meera Tendolkar is the Director of Math Content & Training with Pratham’s International Collaborations team. Meera also leads numeracy instruction design, training and research at TaRL Africa. She builds the capacities of government staff and partner organisations to adapt and implement TaRL numeracy programmes across several countries in Africa, while reviewing programme implementation.

Meenal Joshi
Meenal Joshi is a content developer and trainer at Pratham’s international collaborations team. She supports TaRL Africa’s central content and training team in strengthening TaRL programs literacy methodology. Meenal also helps to contextualise materials and implement the Language Learning from Familiar to Formal (L2F2) methodology in TaRL interventions across Africa.

Medard Attoukou
Medard Attoukou is a Senior Measurement, Learning, and Evaluation Associate at TaRL Africa in Cote d’Ivoire. He works in collaboration with TaRL Africa’s central teams and the Ministry of National Education and Literacy (MENA) in Cote d’Ivoire to develop a Monitoring and Evaluation strategy and build their capacities in understanding and using data to improve children learning outcomes across the country’s Primary school. He also supports TaRL Africa’s new teaching and learning innovations in Learning Labs and works closely with research team partners in Cote d’Ivoire.

Mercy Nyangaresi
Mercy Nyangaresi works at the department of content & training as a Training and Mentoring Fellow at TaRL Africa- Kenya. In this role, she works with TaRL Africa team to coach, support and guide the TaRL facilitators, support learners, parents and communities throughout the TaRL implementation process. She also has immeasurable concern for children thus puts a lot of effort into her work to help the learner reach their full potential and succeed in education.

Muideen Jimoh
Muideen Jimoh is TaRL Africa’s Math Content and Training Associate in Kano, Nigeria. He has eight years’ experience in education programming with specialty in curriculum development and Tests and Measurements. He supports content development and capacity building exercises for TaRL activities in Kano state. This includes working hand in hand with the Kano state government to improve learning outcomes in the state. He also supports teachers and mentors to deliver effective numeracy instruction, including support with lesson planning and producing tailored teaching and learning resources.

Naaman Ochieng
Naaman Ochieng is a Programme Coordinator on TaRL Africa’s central team. He supports teams and partners across different countries to strengthen implementation and strategic planning for improvement of programme growth. Naaman also supports communication, training workshops, learning and innovation lesson sharing as well as coordination of regional outreach, fundraising, and donor management.

Nathalie Falle
Nathalie Falle is an Administration and Finance expert on the Côte d’Ivoire team. She administers and manages the financial, human, and material resources for the Côte d’Ivoire team.

Nicodemus Mwanzia
Nicodemus Mwanzia is a training and mentoring fellow at TaRL Africa. In this role he supports the implementation of the learning labs by offering training and mentoring services to the instructors ,community volunteers and government teachers. He also helps in creating and preparing the TaRLs teaching and learning materials and conducting of the community learning.

Prince Muraguri
Prince Muraguri is a Research and Learning Associate at TaRL Africa, working with the Zambia team. Prince’s work at TaRL Africa focuses on implementing innovations to the TaRL methodology in Zambia (Catch Up), as well as assisting in the design, preparation and implementation of a Randomized Controlled Trial (RCT) to evaluate the impact of Catch Up on learning outcomes among primary school pupils.

Philip Adigun
Philip Adigun is a TaRL Advisor in Nigeria. He provides technical and managerial direction for the successful implementation of the TaRL approach in the state. He builds and maintains effective relationships with key state partners and other relevant stakeholders and is collaborating with the state government to explore how the approach may be applied in the state.

Sabina Wendiyi Obere
Sabina Wendiyi Obere is a Research and Learning Associate at TaRL, working with the central team. She supports Research and Learning processes across several African countries with an aim to continuously improve the effectiveness of the TaRL approach over time.

Sheila Chepkoech
Sheila is the Partnerships and Fundraising Manager. She is responsible for developing and executing partnership engagement, and community building strategies. She also supports fundraising and donor management.

Sohael Memon
Sohael Memon is a Content Developer and Trainer at Pratham’s International Collaborations Team. He supports TaRL Africa’s central content and training team in strengthening TaRL programs’ Numeracy Methodology. Sohael also helps to contextualise materials and review program implementation.

Sylvia Njuma
Sylvia Njuma is the administrative associate at TaRL Africa, based in Kenya. She carries out administrative duties to support office administration and logistics including procurement, front office management, office supplies among other administrative tasks.

Tanvi Banerjee
Tanvi Banerjee is an Associate with Pratham’s International Collaborations team. She supports partners in planning and strengthening the implementation of their TaRL interventions. Tanvi also assists with TaRL Africa’s external communications and social media strategy.

Titus Syengo
Titus Syengo is TaRL Africa’s Managing Director. He drives the mission and strategy of TaRL Africa and oversees all programmes, ensuring scale up of the TaRL approach to millions of primary school children in Africa. He is responsible for building a collaborative, unified TaRL Africa team working effectively across multiple countries to achieve our goal of supporting education systems.

Usha Rane
Usha Rane is Director of Content & Training with Pratham’s International Collaborations team. As the central lead for literacy pedagogy design and research at TaRL Africa, Usha builds the capacities of government staff and partner organisations to contextualise TaRL instruction and develop content in multiple languages across several countries, while reviewing programme implementation.

Vasant Makwana
Vasant Makwana is a content developer and trainer at Pratham’s international collaborations team. As the literacy trainer in Nigeria, he is responsible for capacity building of master trainers and mentors in the government and partner organisations. He also supports the creation and review of classroom activities and materials.

Vellah Kadeiza
Vellah Kadeiza is a Training and Mentoring Fellow for TaRL Africa in Kenya. In this role, she helps in development of training materials and methodology, trains and mentors other trainers, oversees volunteer involvement in schools and the community. She also supports innovations on content and adaptations through learning labs. She is based in Kilifi county and is in charge of supporting and mentoring volunteers in Machakos, Taita Taveta, Kwale and Kilifi counties.

Vikas Varma
Vikas Varma is a Content Developer & Trainer at Pratham’s International Collaborations team. He is the key support for math capacity building of the government master trainers and teachers to implement Catch Up in Zambia, and reviews programme implementation. Additionally, Vikas supports math training of government staff and partner organisations across several countries in Africa.

Vincent Dally
Vincent Dally is a Maths Associate at TaRL Africa in Abidjan, Côte d’Ivoire. He has 29 years of experience in teachers’ training with a specialty in designing textbooks and training modules in mathematics in primary education and in teacher training centers. He was the first national coordinator of the PEC in Côte d’Ivoire after training in India with Usha Rane and Meera Tendolkar. He will work with the government of Côte d’Ivoire and the PEC National Coordination to improve learning outcomes for elementary school learners in the country. He will assist teachers and mentors in delivering effective mathematics education through PEC methods and strategies, including support for lesson planning and the production of useful and appropriate teaching-learning resources for each level.

Victor Olajide
Victor Olajide is a Research and Learning Associate with TaRL Africa in Nigeria. Victor currently supports the design and management of research and learning on the TaRL pilot programme in Kano State, Nigeria. He also supports the dissemination of research findings with team members and other relevant stakeholders.

Williams Bangajiya
Bangajiya Williams Goodyear is a Measurement and Monitoring Associate with TaRL Africa in Nigeria, based in Kaduna. In this role, he works with the Kaduna State Government to design effective, feasible, and scaleable robust monitoring and measurement systems thereby integrating them into existing structures.
He also provides technical support to the Kaduna state educational sector officials (SUBEB, QA, MoE, Bureau of Statistics, AML, etc.) toward system strengthening through capacity building and mentorship to understand and respond to data for better decision-making toward improving learning outcomes.

TaRL Africa Board

Bala Venkatachalam
Bala Venkatachalam is the Executive Director of Pratham USA. He was involved with Pratham’s programmes in India between 2003 and 2006 as National head of Operations and has previously worked across corporate finance, strategy consulting, and a technology start up as a co-founder. Most recently he worked with the Monitor Group in India where he was Engagement Manager and led a team to identify and develop new business opportunities in affordable urban housing.

David Sears
David Sears is Director of Finance and Operations at J-PAL. David has worked in international development for many years. His work experience includes five years in Morocco with the US Peace Corps and USAID, and managing World Bank and USAID-funded projects worldwide in the areas of small business development, industrial restructuring, and management training.

John Floretta
John Floretta is Director of Policy and Communications for J-PAL. He works with policymakers and J-PAL affiliated researchers, and staff to disseminate lessons from randomised evaluations and promote evidence informed decision-making and scale-ups of successful social programmes. John was Deputy Director of J-PAL South Asia during 2011-2015, which included working closely with Pratham.

John Mugo
Dr. John Mugo is the Executive Director of Zizi Afrique Foundation. He is a seasoned researcher and policy advisor with a credible record of scholarship. He currently works on the holistic development of children and youth, to equip them with competencies for learning, working, and living. Based in Nairobi, John works on generating large-scale evidence on values and life skills, and linking evidence to wider system change. Formerly, John headed the Uwezo learning assessments in East Africa and chaired the Department of Special Needs Education at Kenyatta University.

Kwame Akyeampong
Prof. Kwame Akyeampong is an Honorary Professor of International Education and Development at the University of Sussex, and co-chair of the World Bank and the UK Foreign, Commonwealth, and Development Office (FCDO) Global Education Evidence Advisory Panel (GEEAP). He has published widely in international journals on education and development. His research interests cover teacher education in the global south, evaluation of large-scale education programmes, policy and practice of education in developing country context, and mathematics education.

Madhav Chavan
Madhav Chavan is President and co-founder of Pratham. After obtaining a PhD in chemistry from Ohio State University and serving on the faculty at the University of Houston, Dr. Madhav Chavan returned to India where he worked in the slums of Mumbai as part of the National Literacy Mission. In 1995, as a result of a UNICEF initiative, he co-founded Pratham to address problems of universal primary education in Mumbai.

Rachel Glennerster
Rachel Glennerster is the Chief Economist at the Foreign, Commonwealth & Development Office (FCDO) and a member of the FCDO Executive Committee. Previously, she was the Chief Economist at the Department for International Development (DFID). From 2004 to 2017 she was Executive Director of the Abdul Latif Jameel Poverty Action Lab (J-PAL).

Rukmini Banerji
Rukmini Banerji is CEO of Pratham, where she has been part of the leadership team since 1996. Since 2005, she has led the Annual Status of Education Report (ASER). In 2008 Rukmini was the inaugural recipient of the Maulana Abul Kalam Shiksha Puraskar Award conferred by the Government of Bihar, India. She is internationally recognised as a champion and expert of foundational learning. Dr. Rukmini Banerji was awarded the 2021 Yidan Prize, the world’s highest education accolade, in recognition of ground-breaking work addressing a crucial piece of the education puzzle: improving the quality of education and outcomes for learners at scale.
